Challenge
Diagnose complex operating-system failures while supporting enterprise customers during critical outages.
Context
Oracle Linux and OCI environments, covering compute, storage, networking, upgrades and system services.
My role
Technical Support Engineer 2 (IC2): L3/L4 escalations, live customer troubleshooting and coordination with Cloud, Database and Operations teams under SLAs.
Solution
Investigate boot, package, storage and network failures using journald, system logs and sosreport. Analyze kernel panics with kdump, vmcore and the crash utility. Validate KVM/libvirt hosts and VM lifecycles; manage fleet patching, software sources, policies and lifecycle jobs through OS Management Hub. Investigate Leapp upgrades and use Performance Co-Pilot and Grafana for performance analysis.
Tech stack
Oracle Linux 7/8/9, RHEL 7/8/9, OCI, KVM/libvirt, virsh, Leapp, OS Management Hub, journald, sosreport, kdump/vmcore, crash utility, Performance Co-Pilot, Grafana.
Impact
Contributed to identifying root causes and restoring services.
Key takeaway
Understanding the operating system helps connect an application symptom to the infrastructure behind it.
